My Thoughts on Gun Violence

Please excuse me in advance for rambling and ranting here. There are things that I need to get off of my chest and I think the best way for me to do so is just by writing this all down and letting my thoughts on this matter flow. It may not even be in a conscience way like I typically try to write but I just want to rant a little.

Where do I even begin when it comes to gun violence in the United States of America? There is so much to say about it and yet so little is being done about it and not a lot of people even really seem to care about it. Sure you may see some tweets about how they give their condolences and how they are so sorry for the victims, yet nothing changes. Within the next few days of that incident, everyone just goes on about their lives like nothing ever happened. There are statistics that I could spew out but I think we all know that in the United States of America there are a disproportional amount of gun violence incidents here and that has to be changed.

It is unfortunate that something tragic has to happen in order for us to even consider being able to have a serious discussion regarding guns. The most recent incident as of me writing this was at Robb Elementary School in my home state of Texas. 19 students and 2 teachers were gunned down. Their lives were taken from them before they could even really experience life. Sometimes I wonder if anyone really even cares or are people just pretending to care because they just want to seem like they are empathetic people and don’t want to come off as too self-centered. I include myself in these questions that I ask of others as well because I am not above criticism. Maybe people do care just as much, if not more than I do. And yet it does not seem like anyone does care. There is a saying, “The best apology is changed behavior”. There is no changed behavior that we are showing. It is the same things over, and over and over again.

When is enough, enough? There has to be a breaking point right? A point where we can no longer just ignore the obvious and actually have to do something about it. Why is there no change happening when we can see that there is obviously something that is going wrong here? Is it that we are just too arrogant and too stubborn to admit that the people who made the laws back in the day no longer work for our modern times? As ahead of their time as they were when they made the constitution they were wrong in some aspects. They made laws that were applicable for their time. How are we still abiding by laws that were made for people that lived hundreds of years ago? Can you imagine if we still thought like they did hundreds of years ago how little progress we would have made in terms of equality?

I hope that in the very near future that we are able to do something about these acts of gun violence against others because we cannot continue to just allow it to continue like it is just something that is not able to be controlled.

There is a great article about gun violence here in the United States by Behind the Tower website. I think it gives you a pretty great, brief and accurate description about the history of gun violence here in the United States. A Brief History of Mass Shootings

Below I also linked some videos from CNN and YouTube about some politicians speaking about guns and how we may be able to get some kind of control on the gun violence situation.
